Aliou Cisse is a singer-songwriter and guitarist, whose modern & traditional music style shines brightly, he takes his listeners on a journey with his enchanting songs.
Born in Sine Saloum, Senegal, the region is classed as a World Heritage Site.
Aliou discovered his singing ability when as a youngster, he attended a Koranic school. His affection for music grew deep, and singing came naturally to him, he captured the feeling that music was his chosen path. Acquiring a guitar, his voice and the instrument sailed sweetly together, and his gift for songwriting came naturally.
With a focused mind and clear vision, he recognised it was beneficial to be close to his country’s music scene, so in the year 2000, he relocated to Dakar, the capital, By 2004, he formed a band by the name of “Yakaar”, the word means hope in Wolof. Setting out to develop their own unique sound, in 2005 the group recorded their first album titled “Doxontou.” Much of the lyrics were about “peace, education, and tradition” their music held an authentic flair. Aliou & Yakaar toured around Senegal, The Gambia & Mauritania, where they were invited to perform at various venues and festivals.
In 2010, the band released their second album “DIEUF”, and in the same year, were selected to perform at the “Folk Festival International.” Bands are chosen for the event, from North & West Africa.
A singer with an enticing tone of voice, the songwriter has written a vast number of songs over the years, and his music has a beautifully alluring presence.
